25 Canadian Cities Chosen for Intensive Climate Action Pilot
Municipalities seeking support for ambitious programs to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adapt to climate change are getting a leg up in Canada.
The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) in Canada, in collaboration with ICLEI and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), launched a new pilot series to provide advanced climate action support for twenty-five Canadian municipalities. The “Showcase Cities” initiative includes technical support, training, exclusive networking opportunities and access to tools and resources, through which each municipality will advance their ambitious climate action objectives.
“Together we are creating ambitious plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and preparing our communities for the impacts of a changing climate,” said Megan Meaney, Executive Director of ICLEI Canada.
“The Global Covenant of Mayors is an ambitious framework. It will help our municipalities take direct action to address the impacts of climate change and reduce their GHG emissions. These 25 municipalities are our leaders, and they want to take their climate action further,” said Bill Karsten, President of FCM.
