New tool for long-term fire management planning

The fire weather projections combine the Canadian Forest Fire Weather Index System with long-term future climate projections. Fire weather describes weather conditions that are conducive to wildfires and are a key factor that affects fire activity. The data show how future changes in temperature, precipitation, relative humidity, and wind speed—the four main drivers of fire weather— combine to affect indices of fuel dryness and potential fire behaviour. Through the online application, users can explore, visualize, and download individual fire weather index system components, including the Drought Code, Buildup Index, Fire Weather Index, and more.
