Invitation to participate at the ICLEI World Congress 2021 – 2022: The Malmö Summit

It is our sincere pleasure to invite you to join us at the ICLEI World Congress 2021 – 2022: The Malmö Summit in Malmö, Sweden.

Held every three years, the ICLEI World Congress assembles hundreds of local and regional governments, international agencies, national governments, donors, and other partners from around the world.

We invite you to gather together with us in-person for The Malmö Summit, on 11-13 May 2022 to exchange with and inspire one another on the best practices in local sustainable development, and learn first-hand from the City of Malmö’s wealth of sustainability initiatives. Malmö is a leading global example of creative and impactful sustainable development.

In the face of the global pandemic, the ICLEI World Congress 2021 – 2022 has pioneered a brand new format. The ICLEI World Congress Virtual Launch, held in April 2021, consisted of an all-digital experience that kicked off the World Congress with high-level and insightful global discussions. Next, we opened The Road to Malmö, a virtual webinar series that has been taking participants on a tour around the world, exploring global sustainable development advances as we move towards 2022.

Building on the momentum of these virtual events, ICLEI Members and other local and regional governments will assemble together in Malmö, joined by key partners. The event will have three exciting days of core programming for participants, featuring strategic high-level dialogues building on themes explored in 2021, as well as engaging technical site visits, in-depth workshops and multiple networking opportunities especially suited for in-person participation.

The ICLEI World Congress represents a unique occasion to underline the pivotal role local and regional governments can play in bringing strategic actors together to create bold, sustainable urban change.

At the conclusion of the Malmö Summit, ICLEI will present the Malmö Commitment, which will invite local and regional governments to work together to advance equitable, sustainable development.
