Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change

Limiting global warming to 1.5oC would require rapid, far- reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society, the IPCC said in a new assessment. With clear benefits to people and natural ecosystems, limiting global warming to 1.5oC compared to 2oC could go hand in hand with ensuring a more sustainable and equitable society, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said on Monday.

All a bit overwhelming isn’t it? I am happy that we finally have a clear number in terms of years. I think that helps focus people. Now it is a matter of social and political change. I believe we are still not educating young people to deal with the changes that will come both to mitigate climate change and to deal with the realities of the changes already here and yet to come in terms of the effects of climate change. Canada is already beyond a 2C rise overall and yet we remain firmly in denial of the shifts and changes required. Here is a link to a good VOX article on how to do a rapid draw down into a low or zero carbon economy (and make money in the process!).

Any comments, I think this is really serious, and totally what we should be concerned about?
